Men can do crazy and irrational things because of girls. I had seen a person because of some remarks on his girlfriend, rushed home to get a knife to threaten the person.
The thought of been betrayed by his girl, could had drive him to the brink. He might be thinking of ending somebody life and his own life.
As manifestations of his karma, made he felt that life is hopeless.
